India's CCS accepted on 8 September the procurement of 56 C295MW medium transport plane (just like this one) for the IAF to switch the service's ageing Avro 748M transport fleet. (Airbus)
India's Cupboard Committee on Safety (CCS) accepted the procurement of 56 Airbus Defence and House C295MW medium transport plane for the Indian Air Drive (IAF) on 8 September that may substitute the service's ageing Avro 748M transport fleet.
The Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) stated in an announcement that 16 plane can be acquired instantly from Airbus and delivered in fly-away situation from Spain inside 48 months of the signing of the contract, whereas the remaining 40 platforms can be manufactured by the Tata consortium – as a part of a three way partnership (JV) with Airbus – inside 10 years of the contract award.
Though not formally introduced, the acquisition is estimated to be valued at INR210 billion (USD2.86 billion), in accordance with business sources.
